Calm Technology is a design approach that allows people to be more human. Its support is quietly but surely spreading around the world. In November, Amber Case, founder of Calm Tech Institute, visited Kyoto to report on the opening of the institute's first overseas base and the launch of a new certification program.

"A good tool is like a hammer: The hammer doesn't do anything. We use the hammer, and when we use it well, it becomes an extension of our hand. But a lot of technology today is like a lever that a lab rat has to push, and it always wants us to push something," says Amber Case.

There were three objectives for this visit to Kyoto. The first was to directly teach the idea of "Calm Technology" to mui Lab employees and their clients. The second was to present the mui board with a certificate of the " Calm Tech Certified™" program, which had just been launched the previous month . The third was to announce that the Calm Tech Institute's first overseas base would be established within the Kyoto mui Lab.
